The Honorable Bee

"The bee is more honored than other animals, not because she labors, but because she labors, but because she labors for others."       Saint John Chrysostom

I was asked recently if I had any photographs of bees.  I knew I had a couple of good ones I liked, but I really thought I had more.  Then I remembered how hard it is to photography these very busy, very fast creatures.  Here is what I have:

California Adventure

I just returned home from five days in Sunny California.  I visited the Temecula wine country, a fair and art show, the beach (but of course!) and endless shopping.  It's beautiful down there, but I'm glad to be home in the Pacific Northwest!

Super Moon 2014

The super moon is when the moon is closest to the earth, therefore appearing much larger than normal.  Last night we had a super moon.  My camera was not being cooperative so I didn't get the shots I was after, but here is what I got.

Photo Manipulation - Civil War Reenactment

I pride myself on the fact that I don't "photoshop" my images (I don't even own photoshop!).  I will do some manipulation in the digital darkroom - things like adjusting the exposure, changing the white balance - or making a color photo black and white.  I recently visited a civil war reenactment and did some minor changes to make them look more like they came from that era -  Here are some of them:

      So, what do you think?

Time Flies!

I've really neglected this blog - putting a lot of focus on the 365 day project and Pleasures of the NW.  I'll be trying to keep this one up too - at least a couple of times a week.

Seems like time really does fly these days.  I work full time, am in my last term of course work before I begin my Master's thesis, and I'm trying to keep up with three blogs.  What was I thinking?  But here I am, plugging away at it.

This last weekend we went hiking with my grandson in Silver Falls Park - And I mean HIKING!  Almost four miles around waterfalls (one full mile was ALL UP hill - my old body barely made it!).  But it was worth the blisters from wearing the wrong shoes - and here are some photos to prove it!
