National Poinsettia Day

There is a day dedicated to the beautiful red Christmas flower, but how did this plant become associated with the holiday?

Legend says that a little girl in Mexico was sad that she had no gift for Jesus.  She was poor and could not buy anything.  An angel told her that any gift given with love was good enough.  So she picked weeds from the side of the road and laid them at the manger.  Those weeds soon bloomed into beautiful red stars.

Quote of the Week - Merry Christmas

[FOR THE SAKE OF OUR BROTHER]

In a stable
In a manger
In the cold winter's air
In the arms of his mother
A child's lying there

In a city
In a village
Though the years have gone by
The child still remains
With the dream still close by

And each year on this night that child reawakens
And each year on this night that hope rebegins
That the dream he has offered might one day be taken

For the sake of our brother
For the child who's forgotten
For the dream that is still lying there

O' come all ye faithful
Joyful and triumphant
O' come ye, o' come ye
To Bethlehem
Come and adore him
Born the king of angels

O' come let us adore him
O' come let us adore him
O' come let us adore him
Christ the lord

In a stable
In a manger
In the cold winter's air
In the arms of his mother a child's lying there

Photographic Opportunities

Living in the Pacific Northwest does not always provide the perfect weather to get out and take photographs.  This time of year is usually dark and dreary, and most often, wet.  So what is a creative photographer to do?

Carry the camera at all times! You never know when an opportunity will present itself - geese on a pond, an interesting pattern in the ice on the ground -

Or a great, sparkling Christmas tree when you're out shopping!  I went to the Woodburn Outlet stores and the huge tree just caught my eye.  Out comes the camera - and.........

Merry Christmas!
